College Footbal Weekly Round up - Week 4

Oh JoePa, I'm sorry.

Two things struck me this weekend while watching college football, One, weekend with no "good games" on the schedule almost always become good football watching Saturdays, and two, TB&TB College Round up is starting to gather a Madden/SI like curse for the who i talk about for the first time, and/or put a pic of on top. Sorry Javed Best and JaCory Harris, my bad.

Main Eventers:

No. 1 Florida (Win 41-7, Kentucky) - This one was never close. The end of the first quarter it was 31-0. Tebow ran for 2 more TD's and is like 3 behind the great Hershel Walker for most rushing TD's in SEC history or some such. Something to watch, Tebow took a shot in the third quarter, head got bounced off the turf, took a little ambulance ride to the hospital for a overnight servalence. Insert your own "Tebow rises from the un-opened tomb three days later joke" here.

No. 3 Alabama (Win 35-7, Arkansas) - Yup, I moved Alabama ahead of Texas. Body of work so far. That's the only reason. One of the best analysis of Bamma I have heard all season was said by the play by play guy of their game this week. I'm going to paraphrase it suchly "bamma had one way of beating you last year, pure, over powering brutality. This year they have many ways they can beat you, but they can do none of those things as well as they could just beat you down last year."

Basically he's saying, nobody really knows what kind of team this bamma team is, all we know is that they are good, really good. Like "freaky" good.

No. 2 Texas (win 64-7, UTEP) - Got a text from brown early in this game, "Colt pick six, time to start drinking." While I was pissed he didn't use the "taint" phrase (Touchdown After INT), little did we know, that would be the only points UTEP could muster. At one point late in the game, Texas even put in a white out offense, consisting of all white players. True story. Not even one Mexican.

And to this point in the season, those are the only teams worthy of playing for a national title. Things could change, but when it comes to the big schools, that are still undefeated, that look good enough to be crowned, that's it.

Mid Carders

No. 7 LSU (win 30-26, Mississippi State) - Good things for LSU in this game: they caused 4 turnovers, Bad things: only 263 total yards. Maybe they were looking forward to two weeks when they host Florida, or this week when they go to UGA, but if they can't do a better job of moving to the ball against the gators or the bulldogs for that matter, its going to be a rough couple of weeks.

No. 11 Virginia Tech (Win 31-7, No. 9 Miami (FL)) - It was raining, hard, at VaTech this weekend, so much so that neither team did anything in the air. Combined they had 248 yards passing. The weather, plus a good defense completely took JaCory Harris out of the game. No Harris, no chance for the U to win. So as of right now, VaTech is the best one loss team in the nation, with wins over Nebraska and Miami, and their only loss coming against Alabama.

No. 10 Oklahoma(idel) - Time for the Sooners to prove if they are worthy of being in the hunt with the big boys, they go to Miami this week.

No. 13 Ohio State (win 30-0, Illinois) - Illinois isn't a terrible team, and with Iowa proving that they are somewhat legit, OSU now has one hell of season ending trifecta, @Penn State, home Iowa, @Mich.

No. 14 Cincinnati (win 28-20, Fresno State) - Despite the fact the BearCats only had 57 yards rushing and only had the ball for 16 min, they continue to win. Tony Pike has gone over 300 yards passing in all but one of his games, and has thrown multiply TD's in all of his games thus far, including 300 yards and 3 td's this week. He is your dark horse Heisman, and Cinncy is your dark horse national title game participant. You herd it here first.

Iowa (Win 21-10, No. 5 Penn State) - So sorry Joe Pa, but Iowa has got your number. For the 8th time in 9 years, Iowa has beaten Penn State, this time in happy valley no less. 4 turn overs, a 3.3 yards per carry, and a monsoon was the reason this year. Is Iowa for real? Doubt it, they always beat somebody they shouldn't, but time will tell.

No. 8 Boise State (win 49-14, Bowling Green) There is 0 difficulty on the rest of Boise's schedule this year. Zero.

No. 17 Houston (Win 29-28, Texas Tech) - So they beat Oklahoma lite, now they have knocked off Tech with a TD inside of one min. Time to start the Hype Train. I will say this, Art Briles, now head coach of Baylor, brought most of the guys who are "rocking it" right now, including QB Keenum (38-58 435, 1-1). Says alot about where Baylor might be heading.

Developmental Teams

No. 20 Kansas (win 35-28, Southern Miss) - Another good win for Kansas, and another great game for Todd Reesing (30-41 331 3-1).

No. 15 TCU (win 14-10, Clemson) - another very nice win for TCU, as they knock off a decent ACC school in Clemson. Again they do it with defense, holding the Tigahs to under 200 yards passing.

Auburn (Win 54-30, Ball State) - Don't look now, but Auburn is 4-0 under new head coach (and former fail of Iowa State) Gene Chizic. 560 total yards of Offense will do that for ya most weeks. They get a good little show me game against Tennessee this week.

Big ups to all my haters upset of the week goes to South Carolina proving my theory that No. 4 Mississippi "aint all that great" by beating them 16-10 on Thursday night. When are teams going to stop scheduling road Thursday night games? The road team never wins those. (unless of course you are north Texas"

Speaking of North Texas, I'm afraid we are back to the old Todd Doge ways this week. After a promising win and near win the first two weeks of the season, I thought this team would be different, but alas, the 37-21 loss to Middle Tennessee State Saturday night proved me wrong. You can't let teams rattle off almost 500 yards against you AND Turn the ball over 5 times. Come on now.

College Footbal Weekly Round up - Week 3

Two Heismen Guys you may not know.

I may have OD'ed this weekend. As big of a football fan as I am, I don't think I could ever say that it was possible to watch too much football, but i over the past few days, I may have watched too much football. I went to a high school game Thursday night, and Friday night. I went to watch my beloved mean green kickoff against Alabama on Saturday at 11:30 AM at a local watering hole, and then stayed at said watering hole all day. From kickoff to last play of the west coast games. To top it all off, I spent 10 hours or so watching NFL over at browns house Sunday. (He makes money, he can afford the Sunday Ticket.)

It was quite a weekend. Did i watch too much football? Maybe. Would I do it again this weekend if given the chance? Absolutely.

On to the rankings.

Main Eventers

No. 1 Florida (Win 23-13, Tennessee) - The first semi test for the defending champs, and they passed with flying colors. The defense held the Vols to just 210 total yards, only 93 of which came in the air. They got Kentucky this week, and then travel to Baton Rouge to play LSU in two weeks. That's going to be fun.

No. 2 Texas (win 34-24, Texas Tech) - The 10-3 halftime score surprised me, I don't care how many new players Tech has, holding them to just 3 points in a half is a good thing. We all know the next game that really matter for Texas is Oklahoma, and its not a good sign when a team can come into your house, and pass for over 400 yards like Taylor Potts did in this game, but they have to feel good about allowing just -6 yards rushing. Two weeks of shitty teams (UTEP, Colorado) are the only ones left before the daunting 3 game stretch of Oklahoma, at Missouri, at Oklahoma State.

No. 4 Alabama (Win 53-7, North Texas) - So much for shocking the world. Reily didn't play, and that's a good things, as Bama's D was way to much for Dodge ball. Not gonna win alot of games when you rush for 61 yards. Ohh and on the bamma tip, Greg McElroy can play. The back up Star Jackson (what a crazy good porn name) didn't look to shabby either.

No. 8 California (Win 35-21, Minnesota) - Very Nice win for the Bears. Minnesota came in undefeated just like Cal, but the nations most electric runner, Javeed Best, was just to much. His 131 yards on the ground and 5 touchdowns were ridiculous.

No. 9 LSU (Win 31-3, Louisiana-Lafayette) - I hesitated putting LSU in my top 5, but after Washingotn beat USC, their narrow victory over the Huskers doesn't look so bad anymore. Couple that with them crushing Vanderbilt and ULa-La, and they might be a legit team. They have to travel to Georgia in two weeks, followed by a home game against Florida, so they are going to have a chance to earn it in the coming weeks.

Mid Carders -

No. 5 Penn State (Win 31-6, Temple) - Like I said the last two weeks, they will stay here till they play at Mich in late October.

No. 5 Mississippi (win 52-6, Southeastern Louisiana) - Maybe its Houston Nutt, maybe its because EVERYBODY is picking these guys to be the surprise team out of the SEC this year, but I just can't buy into the hype. Is Jevon Sneed a good QB? Yes. Have they put up points against 2 lesser teams? Big time. But I still don't think when balls are on the wall, these guys are more than a 9 win team. Good? Yes. BCS worthy? Nope. They go to South Carolina this week for the first kinda test of the young season.

No. 10 Boise State (Win 51-34, Fresno State) - If Boise goes undefeated, do they have a shot at the national title? They have proved they could grind it out against a good team with the win against Oregon, and this week they got into a shoot out and just rolled Fresno State. Between the two teams, there was almost 1000 yards of total offense, and over 600 yards running.

No. 20 Miami (FL) (Win 33-17, No. 14 Georgia Tech) - Got a text from Brown on Friday that red, "DO you believe the JeCory Harris hype? At first i didn't know who JeCory Harris was, but that's because in my NCAA10 video game, the online dynasty that I am in with Bear, he is Miami and he did the "generate names" bit, and needless to say, his QB isn't Jecory Harris. To the original question, I do believe the hype.

Miami, who might have the hardest first 3 games out of college in the nation, has now beaten (soundly), Florida State and Georgia Tech. Their reward? Going to VaTech this weekend.

No. 11 Ohio State (Win 38-0, Toledo) - The first one loss team that I've put on my board in part because I think they are better than most teams, but mostly because of the game they played Saturday. Toledo is a trap game of sorts, and OSU just straight up punched them in the mouth. Terrelle Pryor (no relation to Richard, despite the questions at the bar Saturday) is still young, and still has many many flaws, but this super Sophomore showed flashes of why this kid was the cats meow coming out of High School. Saturday he had 262 yards passing, 3 td's and a 2 picks, to go with 112 yards rushing and another TD. If he can become a better drop back passer, OSU will be back at the top of my list pretty quick.

Developmental Teams

No. 17 Cincinnati (win 28-18, Oregon State) - Fear the BearCat. Oregon state is a decent team, and were no match for Tony Pike and company. Pike brought his team back from a 21-8 halftime deficit, with his 332 yards passing. Looking at their schedule, there is no reason Cincy can't go undefeated this year. They will be favored in every game they play from this point out, and they get West Virgina and Illinois at home.

No. 15 TCU (Win 56-21, Texas State) - With BYU losing bit go Florida State, TCU is now the number two BCS buster in the nation behind Boise. Unlike most of the BCS buster schools in the past (Boise, Hawaii, Utah), TCU really gets it done on defense. They held shitty Texas State to under 300 total yards of offense. They go to Clemsen this week, another game they should win.

Texas A&M (Win 38-30, Utah State) - A&M is notorious for not playing anybody early in the year, and this year is no different. But unlike the past few seasons, they are actually winning these games this year. Their QB Jerrod Johnson has looked solid so far this season, helping them get off to this 2-0 start, including putting up 322 yards and 4 TD's this game. Another warm up against UAB this week, before Arkansas comes to town.

No. 22 Kansas (win 44-16, Duke) - I said it last week, and I'll say it again this week, people are sleeping on Kansas and the fighting Mangino's. Tod Reesing is a legit QB, and they should rattle off 3 more "easy" wins before hosting Oklahoma in late October.

Big Ups to all my Haters upset of the week is Alabama over North Texas Washington 16-13, No. 3 USC. The superstar freshmen QB Barkley didn't play for USC, but Jake Locher did for Washington, and he lead his team in what has become a yearly occurrence for USC, losing a conference game they should have have easily. Things like this will happen when you turn the ball over 3 times and don't force any, just ask the Cowboys.

North Texas didn't win. Already talked a bit about it. This week stars SunBelt play and we will really see if this teams week one win over Ball State was the turnaround we thought it was or not.

College Footbal Weekly Round up - Week 2

Yea, the Houston hand sign is a shocker. UH my ass. wait, did I just say my ass and shocker in the same caption? That can't be good.

The first "show me" weekend has happened, and 1 team has proven themselves as legit(USC), one that couldn't live up to the hype(Oklahoma Lite), and 3 teams that might be more of a contender than you think(Michigan, TCU, Cincinnati).

Lets just get straigt into the bisnazz.

Main Eventers

No. 1 Florida (Win 56-6, Troy) - HoHum, the best team in the land beat another under matched team in the Gator second pre season game. This week we find out how good they are, and also if Tennessee is for real.

No. 3 USC (Win 18-15, No. 8 Ohio State) - Ohio State has T.Pryor, the fastest man alive, and USC was rolling out their superstar in waiting freshmen QB Matt Barkley. I really thought this was the year Ohio State got this monkey off their back. For 3 and a half quarters, Barkley looked like a freshmen QB starting his first big road game, then the last drive happened, where he was just nails. When USC took the lead 1:05 left, I thought to myself, "self, I really hope Pryor can lead them down to a FG and send this bitch into overtime. This is where the hypetrain really takes off for Pryor." Man was I wrong.

On a side note how is Jim Tressell not on the hot seat? Yea he wins in the big 10. He beats Michigan, which we all know is what they live for in Columbus, but over the past 4 years, he has lost to Texas (VY), beat Texas (Fresh Colt), Lost to USC (Sanchez), and lost to USC (Barkley), in their big non con games. Couple this with his BCS record is an average 4-3, how much magic does his 2002 national title hold, when it itself was about as lucky a season as one could have?

No. 2 Texas (win 41-10, Wyoming) - 13-10 at the half? That's not looking too good, but then Colt McCoy came alive, throwing for 2 TD's and running one in as well. Texas Tech comes to Austin for a revenge game this week, should get a better feel for this team after that one.

No. 4 Alabama (win 40-14, Florida International) - Freshmen RB Trent Richardson was fantastic in this blowout(15-118 2 TD's). I'm still not sold on their QB, but this Bamma team is better than last year. God I hope Riley dosn't play this week and we just chalk it up to a loss and get our paycheck.

Mid Carders

No. 7 Penn State (Win 28-7, Syracuse) - Like I said last week, they will stay here till they play at Mich in late October. QB Dayrll Clark was solid again going for 240 and 3 TD's.

No. 10 California (Win 59-7, Eastern Washington) - Holy Crap Javeed Best is a Beast! The Golden bear running back is built like an elite back (5'10", 190) in the mold of Emmit Smith, yet is faster than both Barry and Bush. He put it on Eastern Washington for 144 on 17 carries. Watch out USC.

No. 16 TCU (Win 30-14, Virginia) - Yea, UVA lost to William and Mary last week, i know, but they are still a big conference school, and TCU went to their turf, and hit them in the mouth repeatedly. Frogs were lead by a Defense that shut out UVA till late in the fourth. Could this be the year?

No. 9 Brigham Young (win 54-3, Tulane) - No let down here. BYU rolled

No. 13 Oklahoma (Win 64-0, Idaho State) - Poor Idaho State, had to let OU take out all the frustrations of last week out on them. QB Landry Jones played alright, but when your defense allowed only 44 total yards, including -22 rushing, a chimp could play QB and you will win.

Development Teams

No. 23 Cincinnati (Win 70-3, Southeast Missouri State) - I know its against a multi-directional team, but when you hang 70, your doing something right. So now, the BearCats have soundly beaten Rutgers (45-17) and hung 70 on someone. Watch out.

Michigan (Win 38-34, No. 18 Notre Dame) - Well, that Notre Dame run was fun while it lasted. This might have been one of the most fun games to watch that will happen all season. It was back and forth (5 lead changes), high scoring, full of big plays, and won with 5 seconds left, when freshmen QB Tate Forcier hit Greg Mathews for the win. What a game.

No. 24 Kansas (win 34-7, UTEP) - The forgotten team in the Big 12, with the best QB people still aren't talking about, has put up some good numbers over the first 2 weeks of the season. Two weeks, when they host southern miss, we will find out how real this team is.

Auburn (Win 49-24, Mississippi State) - Mississippi State is no Alabama, but they are an SEC team, and Auburn put up 589 total yards, and 390 yards rushing against them. Auburn may not be the cock of the walk in the SEC this year, but they are dangerous enough to make some noise.

Big Ups to all my Haters upset of the week is an easy one. Fresh off of "proving themselves" against Georgia last week, Oklahoma State let little old Houston come in and beat them 45-35. Houston's QB Case Keenum was talked about a lot coming into this year as one of those QB's from a small school that could be a good pro, well, 32-46 for 366 and 3 TD's against one of the best d's in the big 12 will help prove that story.

If you were anywhere in the vicinity of the Mid Cities Saturday night, possibly at the Euless Trinity vs Ceder Hill game i was working, and you heard a giant "FUCK!" seemingly coming from nowhere, I'm sorry, because as I was working, I kept checking the old gay phone to see how my beloved Mean Green of North Texas was doing in Denton. They looked good all game, but blew it in the rain of Denton in double overtime. Good news? We held Ohio to 232 yards, Bad News? Reily Dodge went down in the second half. I kinda hope he dosn't play Saturday due to the fact as Gerry Dorsey puts it "Terrence Cody Takes shits the size of Riley Dodge."

College Football Weekly Round Up - Week 1

Oh, football. You came and sat without taking, and then you just walked away, ohhh football.....

Can I explain how much joy it brought me to wake up late Saturday morning to real football, being played for real? I don't know if I can. I really don't know.

Lets jump into the rankings.

Main eventers

No. 1 Florida (win 62-3, Charleston Southern) - Nice Preseason game for the Gators, ran for 369 yards, first test in two weeks vs Tennessee.

No. 2 Texas (Win 59-20, Louisiana-Monroe) - Same as Florida, nice preseason win. First game that even kinda matters is two weeks when they have revenge on their mind and host the Red Raiders.

No. 5 Alabama (Win 34-24, No. 7 Virginia Tech) - I wasn't sure that Bama was going to be be able to replace its stud running back Glenn Coffee, but 150 by Mark Ingram, and 90 by Roy Upchurch against a good VaTech team has me believing that this Bamma offense might be better than last year. They are rewarded with a game against FIU this week, but then have the biggest BCS buster ever coming to their town in two weeks, the Meanest of all Green, North Texas (more on them later).

No. 4 USC (Win 56-3, San Jose State) - Be honest, when you saw at the end of the first quarter that San Jose State had a 3-0 lead, you telling all your buddies "I knew it, USC is going to suck this year!" Well, not so much buddy. The freshmen QB looked pretty good (15-19 233, 1TD), in dropping 56 over the next 3 quarters, but it was the running game that controlled this game, of the guys who helped USC rock 342 yards on the ground, 3 of them had yards per carry over 10.

No. 9 Oklahoma State (Win 24-10, No. 13 Georgia) - I'm not as sold on this OSU team as some people are, but they did look damn good taking care of Georgia this week, and they have the Schedule, that if they run the table, they won't be left out of the title game. If they want that to happen though, they need to get the ball to Dez Bryant more than 3 times though.

Mid Carders

No. 6 Ohio State (Win 31-27, Navy) - Game I woke up to on Saturday, thought the buckeyes looked pretty good, left it at half time when they were up 20-7. Little did I know Navy wasn't done yet. They came back, and almost stole it. I know OSU was looking forward to this week, when they get USC, as they should be. Gonnna be a fun weekend.

No. 9 Penn State (win 31-7, Akron) - There is going to be a trend on the mid Card level here on CFWRU, Penn State will stay right around here, until they play @Michigan, late October. Because that is the first game that should even test these guys. Daryll Clark was good in the opener (29-40 353, 3TD 1INT), but they need to do better on the ground to help him out. 136 yards rushing against Akron isn't going to cut it.

No. 20 Brigham Young (win 14-13, No. 3 Oklahoma) - Well, one week down, and already my Nat Title game is gone. (I had Oklahoma Penn State if you care). BYU, what can be said that you haven't heard or read over 100 times already this week? Yea, no Bradford in the second half, but BYU just looked like a better team. If Max Hall doesn't throw 2 picks, I think BYU could have really run away with this one. (Side note, best part of Saturday? Driving up to Denton sat night along I35, which is the highway to get back to Norman from Dallas. The road was crowed to say the least, and I believe I said "Man, all these cars are driving so slow and look so sad" It was then I realised that the BYU Oklahoma game was played at Jerry World in Arlington. It made me smile)

No. 15 Georgia Tech (Win 37-17, Jacksonville State) - I know its only Jacksonville State, but what would happen if Paul Johnson and his triple flex option ran the table? Hardest games of the year? @Miami in two weeks, home to UNC, VaTech, and Georgia. The want for this to happen is so large right now I'm salivating. Think if all the big boys just drop one game, to another top 15 team, and Penn State and Georgia Tech go undefeated due to weak schedules? I'm openly rooting for this.

No. 14 Boise State (Win 19-8, No. 16 Oregon) - I really thought Oregon would be better than they showed Thursday night, even so that I made a 10 dollar bet on them. Boy was I wrong. Boise controlled the clock (42:32 - 17:28), the running game (164-31), and held the Ducks to 1 or 10 on third downs. Of course all people will remember about this game is LeGarret Blount knocking out a Boise player after the game. Check it.



No. 23 Notre Dame (Win 35-0, Nevada) - I like the Irish this year alot. If they can put away an improved Michigan team week, they will be in my second tier group. Jimmy Clausen was great (15-18 315, 4 TD), and his receivers might be the best duo in the game.

No. 24 Nebraska (Win 49-3, Florida Atlantic) - Not too bad for the huskers of corn. They got a good performance by Helu Jr, (152 on 16), and a D that forced 3 turnovers and only 122 yards rushing. Gonna be fun to see what they can do against Kansas, the favorite to win the B12 north this year.

Big Up to all my Haters award for biggest upset goes to, BYU. Yea, that was well done.

In a note that matters to only me, North Texas has already won as many games this year as they did all of last season, as they beat Ball State 20-10. The highly anticipated first start at QB for Riley Dodge (coaches kid, was supposed to go to UT, decided to save his dads job at UNT), went very well, 22-33 216 1TD 1INT, 12 rushes 73 yards. If they can beat Ohio this weekend, I'm coming for you Dorsey. UNT is going to shock the world when they beat Bamma! Mark it!

College football round up - Week 13 - And then there was one.

What a glorious time of year, no? The Holiday season is rapidly approaching, meaning time off from work, and the sports season is really getting good. The NFL is going down the home streach, the NBA season is starting to round into form, where we learn what teams are for real(LA,Boston) and which are pretenders(Dallas), the Yankees are overpaying free agents and stacking their team, and somewhere Hockey is being played as well, all thought I don't know where.

And then there is College football. The greatness that is college football. The clusterfuck that is college football. We have one big school left unbeaten, that many don't think can stay that way, three small schools still without a loss, and a staggering 6 schools with one loss gripping that they are the second best team in the nation! Good times.

Now if you have been reading this site for a while, you know that I am bowl guy. I love the fact that we can turn on the TV set on the first of the year, and watch a Pac 10 team play a Big 10 team at the Rose Bowl. I love it. I'll explain either later today or tomorrow why a playoff system is a bad idea, but I will introduce a "big bowl preview" at the end of my top rankings, so take a look at the end, if you are so inclined.

Main Eventers

No. 1 Alabama (Idle) - They have Auburn and Florida over the next 2 weeks. They hold their own destiny in their hands, and with a win in the Iron Bowl, they will all but guarantee a BCS bowl birth.

Mid Card - This is where it gets fun. 6 teams are fighting for that last shot at the title. Some hold their own fate in their hands (Florida, Oklahoma) and some need some big help (Penn State, Texas)

No. 3 Texas (Idle) - I though long and hard as to who should be number 2 in my poll. I tried to put the "i hate Oklahoma" thought out of my mind and look at in a legit way, from the outside, and this is what I see. Looking at losses, Texas's was the least harmful, on the road, last second loss. The Horns have hated rival's A&M this week, and if they can get by that, it will be in the hands of the voters, as to where they end up playing.

No. 5 Oklahoma (win 65-21, No. 2 Texas Tech) - Holy shit what a beating! I really can't imagine a more impressive way to try and show voters that you are worthy of a BCS bid than hanging 65 on the number 2 team in the country. Sam Bradford only needed 14 completions to hit the 300 yard mark, and 4 TD's. They have a neutral field loss, which is worse than a home loss, but not as forgiving as a road loss, which is why they are three.

No. 6 USC (Idle) - I'm sure I'm one of the only people in the entire nation outside of LA that feels the Men of Troy are getting the shaft this year. They have one loss, on the road, to a now top 20 team. That better than Florida can say, or Penn State, or even Oklahoma as they lost at a neutral site. They got two games left, vs the Irish, and UCLA and if they take care of biznass, which they should, they arn't even guaranteed the Rose bowl, because of the loss to Oregon State.

No. 4 Florida (win 70-19, Citadel) - I have the gators rocking the 5th spot right now, but in my heart of hearts this team is the number one team in the country. I believe they have the best overall team, with play makers at ever possession that matters, and a coach that can game play with the best of them. Because of the soft teabag like stranglehold the SEC has on college football votes, unless one of the lose before they play each other, one of the Championship game spots will be Bamma or Florida.

No. 2 Texas Tech (loss 21-65 No. 5 Oklahoma) - That loss was bad. And if they could have kept it close, they might still have a shot at a BCS Championship bid, but not after that shellacking. Even if the Sooners drop to Oklahoma State, and the Raiders win the Big 12, all they can hope for is a Fiesta Bowl game. Your going to hear a lot of people say things this week like, "I knew they would fall back down to earth" and stuff like that, but don't let that cheapen what the Red Raiders did this year. They took the next step, and if Leach remains in Lubbock, they won't be going anywhere for a while.

No. 8 Penn State (win 49-18, No. 15 Michigan State) - Daryll Clark had another fantastic game, 341 and 4 td through the air, and another TD on the ground, in rout to ending the regular season for the Lions with another nice win. They have almost no shot at getting to the championship game, but that's what we thought about Ohio State last year.

BCS Buster

No. 7 Utah (win 48-24, No. 14 Brigham Young) - Welcome to the dance, Utes! They are done with their season after causing 6 turnovers against the Mormons. They have punched a ticket to steal a spot from one of the big 12 teams, I'm looking at you, Tech.

No. 9 Boise State (win 41-34, Nevada) - Held off a late surge from the Wolfs of Nevada, to pull just one game away from another undefeated season. All that's left from them and taking the either Penn State or Ohio State's BSC bid is Fresno State.

No. 17 Ball State (win 31-24, Central Michigan) - Behind 177 yards from MiQuale Lewis, his 9th 100 yard game this year, the Cardinals rushed to a showdown game with 2nd in conference Western Michigan this week, winner to play Buffalo for the MAC title. If they win out, I still don't think they will sneak in without a loss from Boise. ohh and the game is tomorrow, if your interested.

Local Love

No. 16 TCU (win 44-10, Air Force) - TCU finishes 2nd in the Mountain West, behind Utah, with 10 wins. The 10 wins gives them 40 in 4 years. Now how in the hell is Gary Patterson not coaching somewhere else?

North Texas (win 13-52 Middle Tennessee State) - Now when I got to North Texas we were shitty. Then we became respectable with 4 straight Sun Belt championships, now that I'm gone and an Alum, we're shitty again. 1-10 with the only win over lowly Hivvy and the Blood Drops, who are just barley a div 1 school.

I don't know how likely it is that Georgia Tech wins the ACC, but i love watching the wishbone so i put them in, that and the ACC is one big ass cluster fuck right now. I believe that Oklahoma will jump Texas in the BCS polls after beating State, and beat Mizzou in the B12 game. Florida will roll the Tide in the SEC champ game. Texas is your number 3, getting the automatic bid, USC edges Boise for the last spot because they are USC and they will get people to watch the game.

Game I am most excited about? Bamma vs Texas. If only cuz brown and Gerry could have a mustache contest.

College Football Round Up - Week 11 - And then there were 2

Iowa, Realy?!?

I'm not a big fan of either Texas Tech or Alabama, but i do love good football, and I would love the see the best offense I've seen in years (Tech) go up against one of the best defenses in the country (Bamma), so as a favor to me football gods, please let Tech and Bamma get through the rest of the season undefeated and play each other in the BCS championship game! I'm begging you.

In all honesty, I really don't think that will happen. To be completely honest, I think both teams will lose. Tech to Oklahoma, and Bamma to Florida. Leaving us with about 15 one loss teams, with only 2 spots open to play for the BCS, and right now, I throw my bets behind Oklahoma vs. Florida, or USC vs. Florida, because if I know anything, its that the WWL sucks a bunch of SEC and USC taint.

I didn't get to watch football this weekend like I usually do, due to the fact I was on a camping trip this weekend, to celebrate mine and a buddy's birthday. We picked this weekend as there was no cowboy game, and its finally cold enough to camp without sweating you balls off. Camping was fun, but it did hinder my football watching, so I'm going off of highlights and box scores. Bare with me.

Main Eventers -

No. 1 Alabama (win 27-21(ot), No. 16 LSU 21) - Everybody knew that this was going to be a close game. Brown was updating us though out the evening with super phone as to how this game was going. Looks like this one went about like I thought it would, lots of good D, LSU running the ball well, came down to which team would commit the fewest mistakes, and when your QB throws 4 picks, its tough to win. I don't know what Bamma has in the pipes when it comes to QB's, but in 2 years, when Julio Jones is a junior, and they can get a good QB in there, this team will be almost unstoppable. I'm not saying John Wilson is a bad QB, but 15-31 isn't going to install fear in peoples hearts.

No. 2 Texas Tech (win 56-20, No. 9 Oklahoma State) - Coming into this year, there were people who said this Tech team was better than any Tech team well, ever, but they still have a wacky offense, and are the third most important college football team in Texas, so I still find it strange that Texas Tech is number 2 in the polls, and has a legit shot at the BCS championship game, and unless he totally implodes, the Heisman trophy winner in Grahm Harrell.

He went 40-50, 456 yards and 6 TD's. Against what was considered the best defense in the big 12. At the start of the season, when looking at the Big 12 schedule, Tech traveling to Oklahoma was almost a gimme win for Oklahoma, now, after beating Texas, and demolishing Okla Light, I think now Tech has a shot, not just a shot, but a good one. I can't wait for this game in two weeks.

Mid Card Guys - Much like John Cena and HHH, unless there is some sort of swerve we don't see coming, the two teams above are the two top stars in college football, and should headline Wrestlemaina, but these next teir guys still have something to play for, should the Main Eventers lose.

No. 5 Florida (win 42-14, Vanderbilt) - I have been back and forth between which school I thought should be number 3, Florida or Texas. Texas has better wins (Oklahoma, missou), and a much better loss( Tech) than Florida (wins Georgia, LSU, loss home to Mississippi), but watching Florida, when they "click," I don't know if there is a better team out there. The past 4 games, against Vandy, Georgia, Kentucky, and LSU, they have outscored the other teams 294-50. Those four teams aren't bad teams either. 3 were Ranked in the top 15 at one point this year, and Kentucky has played everybody close this season.

No. 4 Texas (win 45-21, Baylor) - The Horns did exactly what they needed to do, to get by this decent, but not good Baylor team. McCoy put up 300 yards and 5 td's. I know Brown's got a chart that tells you how the Big 12 could breakdown if it Tech drops a game to Oklahoma, and we have 3 one loss teams who all lost to each other, but the best chance for Texas to make the BCS game is if Tech goes undefeated till the Big 12 Champ game, and then lose, and they might get in the back door.

No. 6 Oklahoma (win 66-28, Texas A&M) - My top 5 has 2 SEC and 3 Big 12 teams, and its a trend that's likely to continue. The conference with the best offense(big 12) and the best defense's(SEC) NEED to play each other in January. Oklahoma has put themselves in a situation to once again play spoiler to the Texas teams, if they can beat Tech in two weeks, they will probably jump Texas and Tech in the BCS, giving them the right to represent the South in the Big 12 Championship game. This game saw another 600 total yard preformace from the Sooners, and it was a balanced attatck with 325 in the air, and 328 on the ground.

Alot of talk the past few weeks was Oklahoma's D, and whether or not it was championship worthy. Well, this week against a good pair of RB's, the Sooners held Texas A&M to 26 yards on the ground on 29 carries. Thats a 0.9 yards per carry.

No. 7 USC (win 17-3, No. 21 California) - I feel kinda bad for USC. They might very well be the most talented team in the Nation, but unless a bunch of teams drop another game, they won't get a chance to play for the BCS title, due to the lack of quality teams int he Pac 10. The one loss to Oregon State who has the inside track to win the Pac 10, was just as bad as Florida losing to Mississippi, yet because they have no really good teams like LSU and Georgia to redeem themselves on, they are at the back of the pack of the 1 loss teams. Its a shame too, because this team has a NASTY defense, holding Cal to under 200 yards total offense.

No. 3 Penn State (loss 23-24 Iowa) - While I like the fact that Penn State lost, because now we will probably get a Big 12 vs SEC championship game, it would have been really cool to see JoPa playing for a national title. But alas, in what has to be a typical big ten game, neither team passed the 300 total yard mark, and it was a battle of field goals. Good bye Penn State, I hope you enjoy getting your ass kicked by USC in the Rose Bowl.

BCS Busters -

No. 17 Ball State (win 45-14, Northern Illinois) - I am really starting to root for Ball State to go unbeaten. How crazy would it be to have a dejected team, say Texas Tech, play Ball State in the Sugar Bowl? Better yet, how about Ball State vs Big East Champ Cincinnati! Nothing says BCS like Ball State vs Cincy!

No. 8 Utah (win 13-10, No. 12 TCU) Could 2 non BCS schools get in BCS games? If Utah wins out, which will be hard as they still have to play BYU, and Boise wins out, i don't see how you can put one in over the other. And what if Ball State wins out too? Surly there can't be three teams!

No. 10 Boise State (win 49-14, Utah State) - Come to think of it, if all three of guys runs the table, lets let the coaches play a game of Simon to see who gets to play Pitt in the Fiesta Bowl, the two losers can play each other at the Arm Forces bowl or some such. Red, green, green, blue..........

Local Love

No. 12 TCU (loss 10-13 No. 8 Utah) - Really didn't see this one coming, TCU lost with 48 seconds left, after out gaining the Utes 416-275. Turnovers and penalties killed the Horned Frogs though, and thus their chance to be the first one loss non bcs school to go to a BCS bowl game comes crashing down.

Southern Methodist (loss 26-31 Memphis) - SMU had their chances in this one, pulling to within 1 twice, but they just couldn't stop the Tigers rushing attack. Getting out gained 306-38 on the ground will leave your defense out there way too often.

North Texas (loss 13-46 Florida Atlantic) - At one point in the second quarter it was 6-9, then the Owls rolled off 37 straight points. Its hard to win games when you can't play defense (507 total yards given up, 46 points), hold on to the ball(4 turnovers) and can't convert on third downs (2-11). I'm giving Dodge one more year, because its still real to me damnit!

Welcome to November.

Last year we saw a slew of team grab the number one spot for a week or so till they were upset by someone, opening the door to a new number one. This year may not be that much different. Is it a good thing? That depends on who you are.

With the emergence of the spread offense, easier recruiting, and cutting down of roster size, the college football landscape has become more wide open, and harder for the great teams to dominate and sustain a full season of bad assness. I'm not going to use the parody word, but the idea that a recruit can go to a school like Texas Tech, start from day one, be in a high powered offense, and still have TV exposer have made the have not, into kinda haves.

Main Eventers.

No. 2 Alabama (win 35-0, Arkansas State) - Took care of business. Held the red wolves to 158 total yards. Because of Tech's looming slate of games, and Penn State's bye week, they are the default number one right now. Two things of note for Bama, if they make it, they will more than likely play Florida in the SEC champ game now, that should scare Bama peeps, but before they can get there, they have to go to Baton Rouge this weekend and play a good, but not great LSU team. God I love November football!

No. 7 Texas Tech (win 39-33, No. 1 Texas) - What can be said about this game that hasn't been talked about already? Tech scored an early safety, which set the tone that the Red Raiders were here to play on both sides of the ball. If Crabtree's 10 rec for 127 and that last second touch doesn't have him at the top of Heisman lists at least this week, then the people who make the lists are slighting him because he plays for Tech. If he was a Sooner, Volunteer, or even Nitney Lion, everyone would be down on their knees right now.

No. 3 Penn State (idle) - How nervous are you if you are a State fan? You have only three games left, you will be favored in all of them, only one on the road, and for several reason's, people are going to try and say you don't belong in the BCS champ game? I'm not rooting for Penn State to run the table, if for nothing else we can hear JoPa talk about getting screwed out a chance to play for a national title. "I'm never leaving" Good times. They travel to Iowa this weekend.

No. 8 Florida (win 49-10, No. 6 Georgia) - Say goodbye to the Dawgs, and hello to the "lets all hope and pray Florida and Bama don't get upset over the next month so we can see one hell of an SEC Championship game" thought. Only 14-3 at half, and I thought the Dawgs were going to make a game out of this. Boy was I wrong

You won't beat Florida, or just about any team, when you turn the ball over 4 times. 3 picks from Dallas' own Matt Staford, who has done very little to empress me as a first round QB talent. You couple that with Timmy Tebow being responsible for 5 TD's and its church. Florida travels to Vandy this weekend, not an easy game this year, and Florida State at the end of the season.

No. 4 Oklahoma (win 62-28, Nebraska) - Umm, 35 points in the first quarter? From just one team? Wow, i guess Stoops was right when he said "Our defense isn't bad, its just that our offense is so good we put them on the Field alot." They Caused 4 turnovers and had over 500 total yards offense. Boomer Sooner indeed.

Mid Card Guys

No. 5 USC (win 56-0, Washington) - Holy crap what a beat down. We all know the Media loves them some USC, and has been force feeding us them for the past 5 or 6 years, but in all honesty, I don't think there is a better defense in all of college football then the Men of Troy. Albeit Washington is terrible, but when you hold a BCS conference team to 184 total, 113 passing, 71 rushing, and force 4 turnovers, your pretty damn good.

Here's an idea that nobody has ever had, ever, Lets let the Pac-10 Champ and Big 10- Champ play each other for the right to play the Big-12 vs. SEC Champ games! I'm kidding, that's way to much like a playoff system, and I'm against that. But it would be fun to see USC and Penn State play each other for the right to play for a national championship.

No. 1 Texas (loss 33-39 No. 7 Texas Tech) - Is the season over for Texas? Not in the least. They only have one conference loss and own the tie breaker to both Oklahoma and Oklahoma State. If they can go undefeated, and Tech drops to one of those teams, they are right back in the Big 12 title hunt. The big concern coming into the season for the Horns was their young, inexperienced secondary. And it finally showed. They let 474 yards passing on Saturday night, and showed their inexperience by dropping 2 picks that could have been game changing.

All that said, Colt McCoy still proved he is among the best QB's in the nation with that ballsy4th Quarter performance driving them down to score with 1:29 left.

No. 9 Oklahoma State (win 59-17, Iowa State) - Oky Light is back in the title hunt after the upset of Tech. They took care of business over the worst team in the Big 12, Iowa state to the tune of 682 total yards. Zach Robinson, the oft forgotten Okla St QB, had 395 yards and 5 TD's with 66 yards rushing in this rout. Now they travel to Lubbock, with a chance to play themselves back into the title hunt.

No. 11 Boise State (win 49-0, New Mexico State) - Despite going 1-6 on third downs, the Smurfs rocked poor New Mexico State to the tune of 495 total yards, 216 of which came on the ground. They get the nod over fellow BCS buster Utah due to how bad they put it on NMSU.

No. 13 TCU (win 44-14, UNLV) - If ever they was a case that a one loss non BCS school should get some love from the BCS, its this years TCU. They racked up 410 total yards while holding the Rebels to 175. Time for another showdown this Thursday as they travel to Utah, with the winner more than likely getting a bid to play the ACC or Big East in the BCS.

BCS Busters

No. 11 Boise State (win 49-0, New Mexico State) - see above

No. 13 TCU (win 44-14, UNLV) - dido

No. 10 Utah (win 13-10, New Mexico) - Turnovers kept New Mexico in this game, but the Utes still won handily, as the Lobo's sored a TD with no time left to make this one seem closer than it was. Thursday night, be there.

No. 18 Tulsa (loss 23 - 30 Arkansas) - Goodbye to the Golden Landlocked Hurricanes, proving even a shitty BCS school is better than most non BCS ones. It was close, but a 96 yard return for a TD with 20 seconds left was the difference.

No. 16. Ball State (idle) - 4 games left, 3 on ESPN 2, can they handle the pressure?

Purdue (win 48-42, Michigan) - For the first time in like 150 years Michigan will not be in a bowl, and they will have a losing record. We knew they weren't going to be very good this year, but it still hurts a bit. Ball State will be in a bowl (probably), and Michigan won't. Cats and Dogs, living together, mass hysteria!

North Texas (win 51-40, Western Kentucky) - We're not last! We're not last! This fantastic win over a team that wasn't even division one until this year, coupled with Washington losing again, means we have a better record than somebody! NT scored the last 14 points to bring home the win. Letting WKU and hivvy the Blood drop score 40 is a little unsettling.

No game for SMU this week, so they didn't lose!

While we won't know the answer to who is the greatest in the land for another 2 months, this last weekend was all about teams standing up in a movie theater, asking the question "who is the masta!?!" and having everybody shout "Sho Nuff!"

It was a weekend where teams really took care of business, and tried to make a statement about where they season is going to end up. We had big games in about all divisions, with the end results more than likely playing into what bowls teams will get in.

I know it means very little at this point, but its always fun to poke the bear that is the SEC and drive them crazy by pulling stats like that out your ass. Because we all know, the biggest blowhards are the fans of the SEC, they make Texas football enthusiasts (the state not the Univ) look like namby pambys.

On to the rankings. Since we are starting to get into the think of things, the Main Eventers may not be 5 teams anymore, the Main Eventers are now teams with a real, legit shot at finding their way into a title game.

Main Eventers.

No. 1 Texas (win 28-24, No. 6 Oklahoma State) - The stretch of games that Texas has played might be the hardest stretch for a college football team that I can ever remember. If they pull it off this week vs. Tech, this will be who they have beaten over the last 4 weeks, The Rival, The Offense, the Running game/Defense, and the Passing Game. That's four different types of teams, all with their own different strengths. If they do it this week, it will be something not even VY did in his day.

Texas never trailed in this game, and Colt was just as good as he always is, 38-45, 391, and 41 on the ground. Texas committed only one penalty all game long, and converted on 11-14 third downs, and Jordan Shiply was fantastic, 15 receptions, 168 yards. The game was always close, but the Horns never trailed and played great defense in the fourth quarter to keep State out of the end zone.

No. 2 Alabama (win 29-9, Tennessee) - Say what you want to about how "down" Tennessee is this year, they still have players who can hurt you, and Alabama knew that, and just headbutted them over and over again to win the game handily. The Bama defense held Tennessee to only 173 total yards, and just 36 on the ground. While this defense is good, really good, the offense really needs to start showing me more to buy in that they can beat Florida, and if they both get there, Texas.

No. 3 Penn State (win 13-6, No. 9 Ohio State) - Penn State had the defense. You hold Ohio State to under 65 yards rushing, and you have a pretty stout D, and your going to win the game too. That's what they did. The reason I dropped them from 2 to 3 is I was really hoping for more from this Penn State offense. I really like Daryll Clark, but 12 for 20 and 121 through the air isn't going to cut it vs Texas, Bamma, Florida, Georgia, Oklahoma or USC.

No. 5 USC (win 17-10, Arizona) - They really just love to play down to their opponent, don't they? I said last week that this would be the best chance for someone to beat USC for the rest of the year, and I almost looked like a genius. Statistical USC should have won this game by 20, but I don't know if its lack of killer instinct, or what, but out gaining your opponents by almost 200 yards and then only winning by 7 because you couldn't get into to endzone like you needed too? Come on. Something should be said for grinding out a victory I guess.

No. 8 Texas Tech (win 63-21, No. 23 Kansas) - First nice win of the year for the Red Raiders, and it came right in the nick of time. They needed to win this game handily, so they could have some confidence this week when big bad UT comes to town. Graham Harrell was money this week, 34-42 386, and 5 TD's. IF they can pull of the shocker this weekend, you have to put Tech in the top 3. On the flip side, Kansas now becomes that "i really don't want to play them" team that is out of the race for big 12 championship, but can still fuck up alot of shit, including playing at Texas later this year.

No. 7 Georgia (win 52-38, No. 13 LSU) - Don't get it twisted, LSU is still a good football team, but Georgia just put almost 200 yards rushing, and forced 3 INTs vs them. You do that, and your going to win more games than you lose. Knowshawn is great in this one, 21 for 163. Right now that SEC East is looking like its going to get fun this week when Georgia plays.....

No. 10 Florida (win 63-5, Kentucky) - Yup, after this week we will have at least 1 team that will no longer have a shot at the BCS strap. Florida plays Georgia, after they just CRUSHED Kentucky, the same Kentucky team that only lost by 3 to the number 2 team in the land, Bamma. What can you say about the game, when you score 28 first quarter points, stats don't really matter after that.

Mid Card Guys. (see I had 7 main eventers, now the guys who really need help getting to the big show)

No. 4 Oklahoma (win 58-35, Kansas State) - Do i really believe Oklahoma is only the eighth best team in this fair land? Hells no, but right now they need a lot of help to get into that big game. But we'll talk about that later. After weeks of Sam Bradford and co. putting on a show through the air, this week, they rocked one hell of a ground game, to the tune of 273 yards rushing. 2 sooner players went over the century mark, and they took care of K-State. K-State is now 4-4, and they don't have any walkovers except Iowa State left on their schedule. Could this team not make a bowl game?

No. 25 Florida State (win 30-20, Virginia Tech) - I might be going out on too far of a limb here, but Florida State has only one loss, and they can still play a little bit of defense. The game wasn't pretty, as both teams only had 250 some odd total yards, but Florida State didn't turn the ball over, and they forced 2, and that was the deference in this game.

BCS Busters.

No. 12 Boise State (win 33-16, San Jose State) - Held SJSU to 98 yards passing.
No. 14 TCU (win 54-7, Wyoming) - Despite having a loss, they might be the best non BCS team to date.
No. 19 Tulsa (win 49-19, UCF) - Held the Knights to 180 total yards.
No. 20 Ball State (win 38-16, Eastern Michigan) - My bad for leaving Ball State off last week.

No. 15 Missouri (win 58-0, Colorado) - For the second week in a row its not a true upset that gets the upset of the week, but how well a team played. I feel bad for Colorado, who was alot of people's darkhourse to win the Big 12 North, and they got a really, really, pissed of Missou.

No. 14 TCU (win 54-7, Wyoming) - No turnovers, and 444 yards of total O. Nice showing for the Froggies.

Southern Methodist (loss 7-34 Navy) - And the Ponys are out of bowl eligibility. Total yards, SMU 144, Navy 404. Total Rushing yards, SMU -13, Navy 404. That's right. All of Navy's yards came on the ground. Let me say that again. ALL OF NAVY'S YARDS CAME ON THE GROUND! They didn't even attempt a pass. Not one.

North Texas (loss 17-45 Troy) - Any way we can play Washington at some point this year? They are the only team besides us that don't have a win yet. Fantastic. Fun little short stories from the UNT homecoming.

I don't understand how there is only bar that everybody wants to go to after the game, when there is a street of bars. I love this certain bar very much, and go there often. I don't want to should like an elitist here, but I'm not waiting in line for a bar for 30 min, even if its my favorite bar, when next door I can sit and have a drink, and wait for the line to go down. But that's just me.

First sighting of a chick crying for some reason? 8:00 pm. Don't know why. But that still seems early.

Speaking of crying, thanks to the Mexican for sending me into the hornets nest of a crying girl. He told me "go talk to her, you have a good shot at getting some." So of course I did, but then i found out the reason I had a shot is her boyfriend, a guy I know, not really a friend, but still a guy I know, had been macking down with another chick when she got to the bar, and she was a wreck.

College Football Round up - Week 6 - The Set Up.

Last week we had the crazy upset Saturday that always happens in college football. Something like 9 teams from the top 25 lost, including several from the top 10. This week we saw a return to form so to speak, as all the top dogs not only won, but did so with some gusto.

Even thought, that doesn't mean the weekend wasn't full of good times. I hate to bring this back to wrestling (no i don't, i do it when ever I can), but to have a truly bad ass main event, you need to do certain things. Yea, it's cool to see John Cena vs. Dave Batista, but if its just a Monday night, and you flip on the TV, and Jim Ross says at the beginning of Raw, "Tonight we have a special match, Cena vs. (dave) Batista." Your excited, you know its going to be a good match, but you aren't really that invested in such a short feud.

How much better would John vs Dave be if over the last 3 or 4 or 5 weeks, each guy kept talking about the other one. Kept beating people up and then grabbing a mike to say "Dave, this is what I'm going to do to you." The anticipation is what makes people buy PPV's in wrestling. It's what keeps smucks like me watching week to week. All the build up and then POW! the match is here and you are pumped.

That's what happens in college football every week. You take certain games and circle them, saying this is going to be a good game. Then every week you cheer for both teams, hopping that each looks good and plays well so that when they finally do meet, they are both undefeated, at full strength, and popping on all cylinders. Everybody loves a fun little upset, but everybody loves the Main Event at the PPV even more.

That's what this week was about. Building the drama for the next couple of weeks. Here is the rundown.

Main Eventers

No. 1 Oklahoma (win 49-17, Baylor) - Normally this score wouldn't surprise me in the least, but Art Briles, the Baylor coach, brought over with him this kid Robert Griffin, who is a freshmen QB, and can out right play. He is the typical athlete QB, who makes plays with his feet. I thought the Sooners were going to have their hands full. I was wrong. The 52 yard bomb in the first 3 min was the message they wanted to send. They look stronger than Ive seen them in years coming to Dallas this weekend to play the Horns.

No. 4 Missouri (win 52-17, Nebraska) - I really thought the Huskers were going to give Chase Dainiels a run for their money in the North this year, but just like the Oklahoma game, 3 plays into this one, Missouri sent a message that they weren't overlooking shit in this game. I know Missouri's offense was good, but putting up 462 yards of total offense is crazy.

No. 5 Texas (win 38-14, Colorado) - I'm sure the majority of Texas fans watched the OU game earlier in the day, and thought to themselves "well, if they can do that, just watch what we are going to do to a better Colorado team!" Why? Because that's the way most Texas fans think. Thank goodness they did what they did. Now this sets up the super fight that everybody wants to see this weekend at the State Fair of Texas.

No. 4 LSU (idle) - Are they for real? We find out this weekend when they go to Florida. The night cap of Main Event Saturday.

No. 2 Alabama (win 17-14, Kentucky) - The phrase "trap game" gets thrown around alot, and in this case was true. The Tide needed all of Glen Coffee and his 225 yards rushing, because the "make or break" guy on the team, QB Jon Wilson, almost broke them against a shitty Wildcat team. On an interesting side note, my sports company did the Frisco Centennial game this weekend, and their QB is a stud, and he just committed to Kentucky. Interesting note(not really).

Mid Carders

No. 6 Penn State (win 20-6, Purdue) - I'm going to regret this, but I am really starting to like JoePa's team. I will regret it because they are in the Big Ten, and they will probably lose this week. The dual treat QB Darl Clark proved he can do a little something something through the air this week, going 18-26 and 220, but it was the Defense that really proved they can play, holding a so-so Purdue offense to just 241 and 1 late TD. Time to prove your worth, they go to Wisconsin this weekend, who's pissed they pissed away a game vs. OSU.

No. 7 Texas Tech (win 58-28, Kansas State) - On the road, against a team many thought would upset you, Tech rolls out 38 first half points. Grahm Harrell goes off for 454 and 6 TD's, doing his best impression of "don't forget about me bitches." They now have Nebraska at home, who got lit up by Mizzou, at Texas AM, who got lit up by Oky State, and at Kansas, who can't stop anybody from scoring on them. Look at what could happen in the next three weeks, Texas beats OU then goes down to Mizzou, LSU gets rocked by Florida, Penn State can't handle Wisconsin, Alabama gets shocked at Rocky Top in 2 weeks, and Mizzou can't score enough to beat Oky State this weekend, look who's your number one team, Tech! It sounds crazy, but not all that crazy.

No. 9 USC (win 44-10, No. 23 Oregon) - At the end of the year, when we are looking at 4 or 5 one loss teams, somebody is going to say "Look USC, they are playing the best football in the country right now, they should be in the championship game." And a small part of me will die.

No. 8 Brigham Young (win 34-14, Utah State) - Just for shits a giggles, what happens if the Tech scenario plays out that way, know who your number 2 team in the land will be? The Mormons. What can the BCS do if BYU is the only unbeaten team at the end of the year? They will be in the top 3 for sure if that happens, but will they keep them out of the championship game? Don't worry to much about this one, BYU will drop a game, probably to TCU.

No. 19 Vanderbilt (win 14-13, No. 13 Auburn) - I don't really think Vandy has the 10th best team in the nation, but they do the 10th or so best shot at getting to the BCS championship game. The win over Auburn gives them some legitimacy, and if they rock out the rest of the SEC conference schedule (they won't) they are in the hunt fo sho. The win also gives offensive coordinators in the SEC nightmares about having to play another good defensive team. You know what keeps Vandy warm at night? That's right, those degrees.

Deveolpmental Guys. (not the next best teams, but some teams to watch out for)

No. 21 Oklahoma State (win 56-28, Texas A&M) - I was kinda pissed they didn't have this game one TV somewhere, not because I'm a big Aggie guy (i am), but I really wanted to watch OSU play, and more specifically, Zac Robinson get his 5 TD's.

Notre Dame (win 28-21, Stanford) - I know its only Stanford, but a win Saturday brought the Irish record to 4-1. That's almost bowl eligible! I'm not going to say that this team is back, and are ready to take on the top 10, but I have been pleased with what the Irish has been doing recently. Jimmy Clausen when 29-40 347 and 3 td's. This week they get a solid UNC team, and if they win that one, they need to be looked at like a top 25 team again.

BSC Buster Teams

No. 17 Boise State (win 38-3, Louisiana Tech)

No. 15 Utah (win 31-28, Oregon State)

Big ups to all my haters upset of the week is not from a game, but just form an idea of life. Ball State is ranked, and that's fantastic. Silly sophomoric driven Bloggers(read:us) are excited that Ball State is ranked.

TCU (win 41-7, San Diego State) - Held SDSU to 85 total yards, including -13 rushing. That's what I'm talking about.

SMU (loss 31-17, UCF) - almost at bad a loss as.....

UNT (loss 42-10 Florida International) - I have a feeling we might be looking at a 0-12 record. yeesh.

College football round up - Week 5 - WTF

If college football kicks ass, and upsets kick ass, that's a lot of kick ass shit! This is the kind of weekend that you dream about if your an also ran in a conference, and the kind of weekend that keeps you up nights if your a top tier program. I simply can't believe what went down during this 3 day swing.

Teams in the top 25 that went down this weekend.

1. USC
3. Georgia
4. Florida

16. Wake Forest

23. East Carolina

That's 9 teams, 4 in the top 10, that will be moving down in the polls. Holy Crap.

Brown said it best when he started asked questions about Pete Carrol and his ability to always fuck up a game or two a year when his team should destroy them, but he had it wrong with comparing him to Jim Tressel. Pete Carrol is the anti Jim Tressel. If its a big game, wither it be a bowl game, a national championship game, or a game against a big rival, Carroll has his team ready to play, they almost always win. Their only real loss that I can think of is in that type of situation is when they lost to Texas in BCS game, but it wasn't because of lack of effort or focus, it was because of one Vince Young, and his ability to take over that game.

Tressel always beats the teams he's supposed to, and that included beating Mich over the past 3 years. He should beat everybody in the Big Ten, especially at home, his team is that much better. What he doesn't do is go out and play teams that are on, or above his talent level well. The BCS games, the Vince Young Texas game (i know they won the next year, but again that's a game they should have won, they were better than freshmen colt mccoy texas), USC this year. He can't win those games.

Give me Carroll and his team losing focus when faced with Beavers(giggle), than going undefeated and getting trounced by some SEC team in the big game like Tressell.

(as an aside, don't read this as Tressell is the only reason OSU is losing big games. Most of the time from top to bottom when OSU plays one of the big boys, the other team has a better roster, but a good coach should be able to over come that at least 50% of the time.)

On to the Rankings. As per usual, this is my top ten teams, in two tiers, from most impressive, to least, and 5 teams to watch out for, named for if they were WWE superstars.

Main Eventers

No. 2 Oklahoma (win 35-10, No. 24 TCU) - What might be a surprise, Oklahoma gets the number one nod over Alabama due to the fact i think Oklahoma's win over TCU is only slightly less impressive than Alabama's win over Georgia. TCU has one hell of defense, and when a team can put up 436 yards of total offense on them, its impressive. WR Manuel Johnson had 5 catches for 206 yards, and to be a contender for the BCS you have to have people that can make plays, and I think averaging 41.2 yards per catch can be considered big play worthy.

No. 8 Alabama (win 41-30, No. 3 Georgia) - Most impressive part of Alabama's win Saturday night was holding Knowshawn Moreno to only 34 yards on 9 carries. In the SEC, if you can stop people from running the ball, you can win games. John Wilson (i can't call him john parker due to douche bag rules) did what he needed to do, which is not fuck up, by going 13-16 for 205, and no INT's. I still don't know if Bama will roll unscathed through the SEC, but this win makes them the team to beat from that hellashish conference.

No. 6. Missouri (idle) - What a nice week to have the week off, huh? Next 4 will be brutal, @ Nebraska, newly ranked Oklahoma State, @ Texas, and home to a good Colorado team. Time to see what they are made of.

No. 5 LSU (win 34-24, Mississippi State) - Most underrated RB in the SEC could be Charlls Scott. He's not getting alot of national love, but the replacement for Jacob Hester had another big day on the ground for the Tigers, 27 carries, 141 yards, 2 td's. You couple him with a secondary that held Mississippi State to only 175 yards passing, your doing pretty well.

No. 7 Texas (win 52-10, Arkansas) - I really wanted to use this game to see how good Texas was as compared to Alabama, because Alabama beat this Arkansas team 49-14 last week. Bama did it with 2 def TD's and running the ball like crazy, and Texas did pretty much the same thing. When you can hold a team to 2-13 on third downs, your winning most games by 30. Colt McCoy was responsible for 5 TD's, 3 through the air, 2 by ground. The only thing that worries me about this Texas team is whether or not one of the crew of RB's can Carrie the load when needed.

Mid Card Guys

No. 12 Penn State (win 38-24, No. 22 Illinois) - I told myself I wouldn't put a Big Ten team in the top 10 again until they proved something, but i really like what Penn State is doing these days. They have a dual threat QB Dayrll Clark, and a running game that put up 241 yards against a decent Illinois teams.

No. 13 South Florida (win 41-10, North Carolina State) - Brown likes to kid with the Vanderbilt vs. Northwestern BCS championship game, but he might not be that far off. How does Penn State vs South Florida sound? Penn is @ Purdue, @ Wisc, home Mich, @ Ohio State. not an easy schedule, but if they get through it, it will be hard for pollsters to keep them out of the top 3. Then there's South Florida, who should cruz till their last 2 games which are home vs. UConn(ranked!?!), and @ West Virginia. I know its not going to happen, but it could, and that would suck.

No. 10. Texas Tech (idle) - I told you last week this could be a top 5 team before they play anybody that matters.

No. 11. Brigham Young (idle) - Next big game that they could lose, 3 weeks, @ TCU.

No. 4 Florida (loss 31-30 Mississippi) - First the first time this year, a one loss team is in my top ten. Florida's loss to Mississippi is shocking, but if they go undefeated the rest of the year, they have the best shot to make it to the BCS title game. What was the main problem with the Gators on Saturday? 1-11 on third downs. That blows.

Developmental Guys. (guys to keep your eyes on, not necessarily the next 5 best teams.)

No. 17 Utah (win 37-21, Weber State) - Two late Weber TD's made this one look a lot closer than it was. Utah used a nice balanced attack with 450 total offense. BCS buster fo sho.

Oklahoma State (win 55-24, Troy) - OSU has quietly been putting points up on the board, and notches in the win column. Troy is no slouch and OSU handed them their asses with 612 total yards on offense, and controlling the ball for over 41 min. In two weeks they play Missou, and we will see what kind of team they are.

Notre Dame (win 38-31, Purdue) - I know some of you are thinking I’ve gone off the deep end, but this Notre Dame team isn't bad. Jimmy Clausen has been progressing, and they may have found their running back in Armando Allen Jr, as he broke out for 134 yards.

Northwestern (win 22-17, Iowa) - Hell if brown has them in the BCS game, I might as well talk a little bit about them. They have 5 wins, but none of them overly impressive. The offense averages 363 ypg, and 25 ppg. They are a nice little team that will enjoy the umovefree.com bowl, or something of that level.

Connecticut (win 26-21, Louisville) - 5-0 is good. Doesn’t really matter how you get there, but 5-0 is good. How are they doing it? Let me introduce you to Donald Brown. Mr. Brown has had over 145 yards rushing per game in the last 5 games. That over 900 yards he's gotten so far, and that's not even half way done with the year! UConn isn't world beaters, they are a nice little team, with a very nice RB.

I can't give one team the Big Ups to all my Haters upset, so i'll just let it slide this week.

One last thought, Does anyone have a problem with letting the winners of the Big 12, and SEC championship games just play each other for the title this year? It may be a 2 or 3 loss team, but who ever comes out on top of those conferences have some real moxy.

UNT lost. Bad. it was 52-20 at halftime. I watched most of the first half, and it was ugly. Never thought i would say these words, but is Dodge really any better than Dickey?

College Football Round up - Week 3

The College football round up is back, ready to recap week 3. So this week was the start of the big games for college football fans huh? The Showdown in the Coliseum was anything but a showdown. We had a baseball score, and the UNT game got to be played at LSU after all. Nice.

So here we go, again the teams are voted on who can win the BCS championship, and who is right there, presented in order of most impressive, in terms of Wrestling terms(what?).

Main Eventers

No. 1 USC (win 35-3 No. 5 Ohio State) - The TV people almost had me convinced OSU could hang with USC's speed. Man am I gullible. And tell me this OSU peeps, freshmen phenom Pryor went 7-9 52 yards passing and had 40 yards on 11 carries and you still want to roll with Boeckman? Let the kid play the rest of the year, show some crazy flash and maybe you can get some good recruits for next year. I know this is USC's post, but I wanted to make it clear that OSU will not, unless every other team loses 3 times, be in my top rankings for the rest of the year. They should have NO chance at all in getting back to the BCS game.

No. 3 Oklahoma (win 55-14, Washington) - Felt bad for Washington, had to take the brunt of Oklahoma's fury due to last years Oregon fuck up. Bradford, 18-21, 304, 5 TD's. He's in the Heisman hunt.

No. 2 Georgia (win 14-7 , South Carolina) - I hope, hope this was Georgia's worst showing of the season. If they play like they did this week against some better SEC teams, they are going down. Knowshawn needs more than 20 touches, but the D played fantastic.

No. 4. Florida (idle) - Tenn this week should be a good test for the Gators.

No. 6 Missouri (win 69-17, Nevada) - I'm ready to believe that this team can get to the BCS championship game. Chase Daniel was money again, 23-28 405 and 4 TD's. Mizzou has put up at least 52 in all three of their games thus far, and they got one more cup cake in buffalo this week, then the fun starts with a trip to Lincoln to play the Huskers.

Mid Carders

No. 7 LSU (win 41-3, North Texas) - Might be the only time UNT gets a mention in the regular polls. Charles Scott, a running back for LSU, had 102 yards and 2 td's, on 7 carries.

No. 8. Texas (idle) Were going to take on the Razerbacks, but good ole Ike scared a bunch of people away. It was the right call, but for the record, I talked to some guys in Austin around 3 or 4 Saturday, wasn't even raining down there.

No. 9 Auburn (win 3-2, Mississippi State) - Nope, didn't get the score wrong, it was 3-2. In my season long quest in following the "new" Auburn spread offense attack, this week, 154 yards passing, 161 yards rushing. Is anybody else not that scared of SEC teams this year? Don't get me wrong, there are 5 or 6 really good teams, but i have yet to see a great team out side of maybe Florida. Georgia hasn't had a "good god" game yet, Auburn only scored 3 points this week, and LSU hasn't even come close to playing anybody. Could be their competition is pretty good too, but come on.

No. 11 Alabama (win 41-7, Western Kentucky) - All that said about the SEC above and I still think Alabama has the 9th best shot at the BSC right now. They got some good talent, a playmaker in Freshmen Julio Jones, and a D that seams to not let people run on them at all. Can't wait for SEC conference play.

No. 19 South Florida (win 37-34, No. 13 Kansas) - A top 20 team that beats another top 20 teams should be on the list. The bulls came back from down 20-3, and kicked a FG to win it with 0:00's on the clock. Matt Grothe was 32-45 for 338 yards in the win.

No. 14 East Carolina (win 28-24, Tulane) - Calling this the BCS buster race, as ECU, and the next team BYU will duke it out all season to try and stay undefeated and get that bid in the big bowl game.

No. 18 Brigham Young (win 59-0, UCLA) - Whats a good way to get voters to forget you needed a miracle to win last week vs an average Washington? How about hanging 59 on a team that just upset a top 10 team. Yea, that will work.

No. 16 Oregon (win 32-26, Purdue) - Look out for the Ducks. They were supposed to have a down year with no Dennis Dixon and no John Stewart, but don't tell this teams Defense. Despite the 2 picks from sophomore QB Justin Roper, the Defense scored 3 turnovers, and returned a punt 87 yards for a score. They might be the best chance at keep USC out of the title game, but don't hold your breath.

Vanderbilt (win 38-21, Rice) - I know its only Rice, but Vandys 3-0! I'm not saying this team will compete for the SEC title or anything, but watch this team steal a win from one of the big boys. Its gonna happen.

No. 24 Illinois (win 20-17, Louisiana-Lafayette) - I know a 3 point win over a non LSU Louisiana school isn't much to be proud of, but Illinois has only one loss, and its to Mizzou. Pluss I would feel un american not to talk about at least one big ten team.

So that's the list this week. In some interesting notes, I wanted to include Notre Dame's win over Mich in the developmental category, but even as a ND fan, i know this team sucks.

I find it interesting that in my top 10 I have 5 SEC, 3 Big 12, 1 Pac 10, and 1 Big East. Just something to think about.

The Big Ups the all my Haters upset of the week is UNLV 23-20 win over No. 15 Arizona State. So much for me telling you to watch out for Arizona St.

The Mean Green of North Texas played LSU as previously stated, and got destroyed, as they should have. Good things from the game? At one point it was 10-3 in the 2nd quarter, and Vizza didn't throw a pic this game. Other than that, I don't know. Wunderkind Riley Dodge threw a pass, it was completed, to an LSU player. There ya go.

College Football Weekly round up - Week 2

Haha, You were last, you eat the cookie!

Its always nice when the schedule works out for you. This last Saturday was UNT's first home game of the year. I love going to games at UNT and I love drinking cold beer out in the parking lot of Fouts Field even more. The only bad part about doing this is I miss most of the live college football games on TV.

Now I have a DVR, and I recorded the "big" games and post game shows on ESPN, so I can start my NFL Sunday with a college recap from the day before, and also all the bars in Denton have Sports Center and the late games going on mute the rest of the night.

That said, what a perfect day to not watch college football this weekend. With only one upset and only a handfull of close games, I didn't feel I missed all that much this weekend, and the Round Up shows it, as all the Main Eventers have stayed the same, and only one team dropped out of the Mid Card level.

So here we go, again the teams are voted on who can win the BCS championship, and who is right there, presented in order of most impressive.

Main Eventers


No. 5 Florida (26-3, Miami (FL)) - winning only 9-3 in going into the 4th, 17 unanswered points gave the Tebow's a nice win.
No. 4 Oklahoma (52-26 Cincinnati 26) - Take away the kickoff return for a TD and a last second TD and 52-12 looks even better for the Sooners.
No. 2 Georgia (56-17 Central Michigan) - Knowshawn Moreno, 9.3 yards per carry. Wow.
No. 1 USC (idel) - ahh yes, they played the ever daunting nobody. Two weeks to prepair for Ohio St. This may not end well for the Buckeyes.
No. 3 Ohio State (26-14, Ohio) - Losing going into the 4th, 5-15 on third downs, no down field threats, I really hope this team was looking past Ohio, because if they weren't, they are going to get rolled by USC this week.

Mid Carders

No. 6 Missouri (52-3, Southeast Missouri State) - That is how good teams should play against bad ones. 592 total yards. Nice.
No. 10 Texas (42-13, UTEP) - Does 1-6 on third downs and getting out gained on total yardage to UTEP bother any Texas fans? A win is a win non the less.
No. 8 LSU (Troy) - Game was postponed due to the shittyness that Gustav caused Baton Rouge. I've got an uncle over there and he's still without power. I was looking forward to seeing what Troy could do, but I'm glad people realize that sometimes there are more important things than football.
No. 9 Auburn (27-13, Southern Miss) - I guess the spread attack of the Auburn passing game will take a few weeks to get going. While not bad, 21 of 34 for 228 doesn't make me think of the Run and Gun, put all the women and children to bed and go looking for dinner that the War Eagle's promised us.
No. 14 Kansas (29-0, Louisiana Tech) - With WVU losing, that opened a mid card spot up for another team, and I was on the fence between Kansas, Alabama, and Wisconson. Alabama has a better win, yet I don't really believe in them, and I refuse to get tricked again (like i do almost every year) in thinking the Badgers are worth a damn, I'm going with Kansas.
Todd Reesing was 32/38, for 412 yards, 3TD's and no picks. That's pretty damn good.

No. 13 Alabama (20-6, Tulane) - Got out gained 172-318, yet help the green wave out of the endzone.
No. 15 Arizona State (41-17, Stanford) - For the past 5 or 6 years, Arizona State has been trying to catch up to USC in the Pac 10, and every year they get a little closer. Watch out for this team and their pretty good QB, Rudy Carpenter, ( 27/36, 345, 3TD's, 1 int).
East Carolina (24-3, No. 8 West Virginia) - Holy crap I was only joking when I said ECU could beat WVU. This team could be for real, Balanced, Efficient, Selfless, all quality for a BCS buster, and now they have 2 wins over top 15 teams. That's better than anyone else in the country.
No. 12 Texas Tech (35-19, Nevada) - Not a good day for Graham Herrell, 19/46 for 297, 1 TD and 2 picks.

And lasty, like I said earlier, I went to the UNT game this weekend where we got drilled by Tulsa, 56-26. I didn't think we had a shot in this game, as Tulsa is a decent little team, but having 42 dropped on you during the first half was tough. Just to clarify, when I said I went to the game, I ment I went tail gating, and then listen to the first half from the parking lot, then went to the bar to watch the rest of the game. If the game was even kinda close, I probably would have went in for the second half, but it wasn't. Is that sorry? Probably, but that's how I roll. Deal with it.
