I was still in college, woke up around 9:30, took a shower. Dressed, grabbed my bag and walked out of my room. In the living area were 2 of my 3 roommates, sitting on the couch, watching TV. I don't like to talk much in the morning so I'm sure some kind of "whats up" was said by me, but they just kept watching. I grabbed a pop tart, strawberry i believe, and turn to walk out the door. One of the roommates said, "school's cancelled." It was at that time I saw the TV. and didn't leave from in front of it for about 4 hours. In an need to escape, i walked around our apartment complex for a while after that. I'll never forget that day.
We don't talk politics on this site. But something as big as this day, 7 years ago, should never be forgoten. It has shaped all of our lives over the past 7 years, and for the rest of it, not just the people lost, but to everyone, because we all lost something.

i had this same conversation with the girlfriend last night.
a couple months from graduating college, i had one of my few 8am classes. i came down the stairs to the ground floor of bidgood hall (business school at alabama) where there is a little "student lounge"...only noone was lounging. it was packed and everyone was standing staring at black smoke pouring out of the world trade center on the tv. at 9am it had pretty much just happened. i saw my roommates brother and asked him what was up. he told me a plane had flown into the a building in new york, but nobody knew any more details at that time...i.e. was it a commercial jet, terrorism, an accident, etc. i went home and sat in front of the tv for the rest of the day as classes were cancelled. i remember it being so surreal that if felt like i was watching a movie. up until that day i never really understood those "remember exactly where you where at that moment" moments.
I remember that. I was actually flying when that happened. Coming from Omaha to Dallas. Nobody on the plane had any idea what had happened. I landed, got my bags, turned on my phone and went to my car. About 10 minutes later about 6 messages all the sudden showed up on my phone. (talking about details...it was a motorola startac). I started listening to my messages and the first one was from my mom. She had heard what was happening and really only knew that multiples planes were being crashed. I called her really quick. Calmed her down. Then turned on the radio and it was on every station. I went back to my apt in Denton. All the roomies were just staring at the tv. I walked in, sat down, and nobody said hardly anything. It was just shock.
